Slip Sliding away
This week has seen some of the worst weather the UK has experienced since 1981. Which means that some of our employees had never see snow like it. A couple of the team however can remember the big winter of 1963. I personally remember being about 10 years old and trying to build an igloo. It went quite well till the walls were nearly as tall as I was. I never did work out how to get the roof on it.
While many schools have been closed and many people have not made it in to work our delivery and collection vehicles have been carrying out their normal duties collecting appliances etc. from around Croydon Sutton and Kingston. We have had a no of problems in getting through some roads but in the main have managed to provide our services to all our customers. On Thursday 7th however it did feel that the fates were against us as one of our teams got bogged down in the snow and but for the help of one of the residents in the area we collecting in providing us with both a shovel and some elbow grease to help digging out the van we would have been stuck for some time. So many thanks to the good Samaritan. On the same day one of our other vehicles was hit twice by other road users struggling with the road conditions.
The first was by a classic 1982 Ford Granada MKII which came of significantly worse than our van see photos below and the second was by an ambulance on its way to assist an elderly lady.

Thankfully no one was hurt and the ambulance did not loose too much time in getting to the elderly lady. So in the words of NYPD Blue "Be careful out there"
